I am an amateur writer.

I did Extension 2 in English… and got a Band 2, so I’m clearly not that good of a writer. However, that has not stopped me from writing my random thoughts and random ideas. Whenever I see a movie, I usually wonder how I would re-write it. And when I watched James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water, I got really angry because there were so many interesting things he could have done with the plot.

He could have made it good, but he and his team of hack writers just wanted a generic action film. Maybe they realised that people only remembered Avatar because it had cool graphics for the time. With that in mind, no wonder they did the water so well in Avatar: The Way of Water and did everything else so shockingly poor. I’m glad the critics have turned on Cameron and the third Avatar movie. If he, with so many years to write and so much money to spend on random nonsense, can come up with the story of Avatar: The Way of Water, then maybe I can write garbage as well.

Fan fiction Link to heading

The movie that inspired me to start writing fan fiction was Disney’s Zooptopia. It was 2016. After arriving home, I kept thinking the universe that the movie expertly set up. Unlike a friend of mine, I correctly identified that the only sentient animals were mammals! I think it did the exploration of racism and discrimination well—or as well as a kid’s animated film could.

Ever since then, I’ve indulged in the universes that intrigue me. I don’t subscribe to fanfic that just takes the characters and create new romantic relationships. That’s boring. I prefer more complex stories set in an interesting universe… I also tend to bend the rules of the universes to my liking.
